Honduras Organic 18 Rabbit Natural Marcala - Special Order

from $14.00

Special Order - delivery within 1 - 2 weeks

In both aroma and flavor of 18 Rabbit Natural, you experience a combination of berry essences that are strappingly strawberry dominate… we are reminded or a strawberry pop-tart and, when combined with the hints of chocolate, something perhaps akin to a chocolate dipped strawberry. Sweet, fruity, balanced and complex with a “mint on the pillow” bright finish. When you open the bag, you will instantly be hit with an overwhelming berry typhoon… a super fun experience from grind to cup. As “Toucan Sam” would say… “Follow your nose! It always knows! The flavor of fruit! Wherever it grows!”… approach responsibly and don’t down the whole box at one time.

Process: Natural/dry processed… sun dried with coffee cherry fruit intact

Elevation: 4593 feet

Aroma: Huge and layered berry… strawberry forward… strawberry pop-tart, jellybean homage takes you back to “Froot Loop” commercials on Saturday Morning… sweet honeysuckle and milk chocolate undertones

Flavor: Strawberry dominant berry “bouquet garni”, milk chocolate… homage to a chocolate dipped strawberry

The size of Louisiana with twice the population and one third the GDP, Honduras is bordered north/northeast by the Caribbean Sea, south/southeast by Nicaragua, south/southwest by El Salvador accompanied by a 115-mile coastline on the Gulf of Fonseca which spills into the Pacific Ocean and northwest by Guatemala. "Waxaklajuun Ub'aah K'awiil" or “Eighteen Rabbit” was the Mayan King of Copan ruling 695-738 CE and is the name sake for the 11 member Zelaya Ontreras family cooperative cultivating our joyfully fruity coffee.

18 Rabbit Natural is cultivated on a micro-lot in the vicinity of Marcala, a town of 15,000 situated in the Sierra Madre Mountain’s Montecillos coffee region 96 miles due west from the capital Tegucigalpa, 146 miles southeast of Guatemala and 16 miles due north of El Salvador. Flhor Zelaya Ontreras, engaged with the family farm since age 5, describes 18 Rabbit natural as her “crunchberry” coffee resulting from the natural, also known as dry, processing where the coffee cherry fruit remains intact while sun dried. Personally, we have drank a fair number of dry processes, however, this one takes the “cornucopia”.  In both aroma and flavor, you experience a combination of berry essences that are strappingly strawberry dominate… we are reminded or a strawberry pop-tart and, when combined with the hints of chocolate, something perhaps akin to a chocolate dipped strawberry.
