Hawaii Kona Peaberry Mauka Honaunau District

from $53.00

We close out our Holiday “Tour de Force” with perhaps the most iconic coffee in the American lexicon. The Kona Coffee Belt stretches from Kalaoa to Milolii, approximately 45 miles, along the southwest coast of the “Big Island” of Hawaii.  Our coffee is grown in what is considered the Golden Corridor at the Belt’s southern tip along a 22-mile stretch of the old Mamalahoa Highway and is sourced by Aloha Farms Hawaii, the largest co-op of Kona Coffee farms with on-site processing and milling. Peaberry’s are rare, making up 3-7% of an entire crop, and results from only one bean, instead of the normal two, developing in the cherry. The theory is that the nutrition, normally focused on the two beans, manifests greater intensity in single beans development. There is debate around this… some claim a denser more concentrated bean and other’s claim the differences to be negligible. Let the intellectuals debate because one thing for sure, this Kona Peaberry is delicious. A smooth creamy body with chocolate and deep fruity notes, sweet nut, much like the neighboring macadamia trees, leaving a lingering bittersweet aftertaste. Enjoy this Christmas Eve’s special brew… we have very much enjoyed this whirlwind trip with you, exploring the world’s special places… with a humble spirit we say thank you for being our travel partners.

As Bing Crosby sang and Clark W. Griswold agreed…

“Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright, the sun to shine by day and all the stars at night. Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way to say Merry Christmas to you.”

Process: Washed, coffee cherry fruit removed and bean sun dried

Elevation: 2200 feet

Aroma: On the grind… chocolate, sugar cane sweet. On the brew… increased intensity of chocolate, sweet stone fruit

Flavor: Milk chocolate bar, stone fruit with cherry top notes, finishes bittersweet with dark roasted malt accents.

Roast: Medium… Medium creamy body… pleasant light acidity.
